What are Freemasons?

You can think of freemasonary as a kind of secret club. Secret because members of the freemasons are expected not to tell anyone out side the club that they are members. This makes the whole idea of freemasons seem mysterious, deceptive and possibly sinister.

Here is some background anyway.

The Freemasons, a widespread, secret society, originated as a guild of craftsmen in the 14th century.  The Freemasons date back to the Middle Ages, to associations of workmen who built cathedrals in Britain, though some also believe in a connection to ancient times with the mines where King Solomon took material for his Temple.

The Freemasons of today are the spiritual descendants of the Gothic architects of the European middle ages.  The Freemasons do not promote one particular philosophical or religious truth above another, except their own idea that man is his own light of truth.

Within the freemasons, there are many people who hold positions of high power and that have a lot of influence on the world. The men involved with this group are known to be well-respected. However, there is a controversy that questions the group’s intentions.  Members of the Freemasons or Masons as they’re also known are taught the precepts of Freemasonry by means of ritual dramas.

Here are some key points of the freemasons:

1. Like many people, Freemasons try to live in accordance with high moral principles as good citizens.

2. It is said the first Freemasons were stonemasons or castle makers.  It is believed that the Freemasons were an example of the earliest entrepreneurs.

3 If the “grand secret” of Freemasons, as brother Benjamin Franklin once said, “is that they have no secret at all,” those who suggest otherwise–including novelist Dan Brown of Da Vinci Code fame in his forthcoming novel, The Solomon Key –have seldom gone wanting for a receptive audience.

4. It is this trust between Freemasons that binds us together and ensures the strength and longevity of the society.

5. Much has been made of the Freemasons purported lineage to the Knights Templar.

In their public disclosures, freemasons extensively refer to “human love, tolerance, universal fraternity, the way to science and wisdom…”, concepts with an instant appeal to heart.

There are numerous conspiracy theories surrounding the Freemasons and specifically some convoluted speculation about conspiracies involved with the founding of America. This emblem or symbol is a trademark of this fraternity and Freemasons show pride and faith by adorning it.
